Spot @
Code & Circuit

Spot is a four-legged robot made by Boston Dynamics. In 2021, one special Spot found a home at Code & Circuit, a non-profit computer science learning lab and research hub in Amesbury, Massachusetts.

Since 2021, Spot has been exploring and inspiring, reaching thousands of students throughout New England. Our high school team was one of the first groups to experiment with Spot and AI. We pride ourselves in case studies and research collaboratives to advance STEM learning.

Code & Circuit Invited to Visit The AI Institute

Founder Ken Aspeslagh and Executive Director Lori Towle had a unique opportunity to visit the Boston Dynamics AI Institute and showcase Code & Circuit's use of Spot in STEM education. Members of the research team learned about our Robotics in Residence curriculum for schools, as we pioneered their Educational uses for Spot. Additionally, researchers were introduced to the ability to add Chat GPT to Spot to enable Spot to talk, and code their Spot robots using the Scratch programming language (developed by Will Scheirey and now open source on Github).

Research

Code & Circuit partners in research endeavors to advance STEM learning while maintaining human connection. In the age of AHI (Augmented Human Intelligence), we are entering a new phase of human possibility. AI, Generative AI, Agentic AI.....these developments free us from the limits of rote memorization and routine recall, creating space for our minds to engage more fully in imagination, synthesis, creativity, ethical reasoning. We explore the human capacities of connection, empathy, and compassion ~ qualities that may lead to an evolution we never thought possible. This requires that we reimagine "Education".

School visits and Spot in Residence engages thousands of students in New England.
